Rescoping Education -
Safeguarding Policy

1. Our Commitment to Safeguarding

At Rescoping Education Ltd (trading as Rescoping Education), our highest priority is the safety and well-being of all users. We are dedicated to providing a secure and protected online environment where students and tutors can collaborate effectively and safely. We have established policies and procedures to uphold this commitment at all times.

This policy should be read in conjunction with our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.

2. Legislation and Guidance

This policy has been developed in compliance with all relevant UK safeguarding legislation and government guidance. We ensure that our site and policies are continually reviewed and updated to reflect legal requirements.

3. Aims of the Policy

The primary aims of this policy are to:

Establish clear responsibilities and expectations for all users of the Rescoping Education website to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable adults.

Provide a clear framework for addressing safeguarding concerns, ensuring all reports receive prompt and effective attention.

Provide students, parents, and legal guardians with the knowledge and tools to promote their own safety and well-being while using our services.

Detail the preventative measures we have in place to minimise risk and protect all users from harm, discrimination, and inappropriate behaviour.

4. Shared Responsibilities

The responsibility for safeguarding is shared by everyone in the Rescoping Education community. All users, including Students, Tutors, and Parents/Legal Guardians, must:

Adhere to the principles and guidelines outlined in this policy and our Terms and Conditions.

All users must refrain from attempting to make private contact with tutors, students, or parents/legal guardians. All communications related to lessons and business should be conducted via the designated email address provided by Rescoping Education.

To further ensure the safety and well-being of all students, the Company collects a general contact number for the primary contact for administrative purposes, and a separate emergency contact number via a secure booking form. The emergency contact number will only be used in situations where a student's safety is a concern and we are unable to reach the primary contact.

Immediately report any safeguarding concerns, illegal activity, or complaints to Rescoping Education via info@beccatuition.com.

In the event a user provides information of concern, including but not limited to safeguarding issues, illegal activity, or inappropriate content, within the optional message fields of the contact form, we will treat this as a formal report. We will act promptly to investigate all such reports in accordance with the procedures outlined in Clause 8 (Handling a Reported Breach) and will cooperate with relevant authorities as required.

Any breach of these terms may result in immediate suspension or permanent removal from our services.

5. Rescoping Education's Commitments

As the platform provider, Rescoping Education is committed to:

Verification and Vetting: As the sole Director and tutor, I am committed to providing accurate and truthful information about myself on the company website and will promptly update it as needed. For the user's peace of mind, I can provide evidence of my enhanced UK background check (DBS, Disclosure Scotland, or Access Northern Ireland) upon request and can offer professional references. I am committed to upholding the highest professional standards in all my work. These same standards of verification and vetting will be applied to any future tutors who join Rescoping Education.

Professional Development and Training: Rescoping Education is committed to ensuring all tutors receive regular professional development and safeguarding training. All tutors are required to complete updated safeguarding training at least every two years to stay current with best practices and legal requirements.

Data Protection: We protect all user data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and relevant data protection laws.

Monitoring and Support: We record all online lessons for the sole purpose of assisting in investigating complaints or safeguarding reports. Lesson recordings are stored by LessonSpace in their cloud storage. We will not routinely access these recordings and transcripts; they will only be accessed if a concern is formally reported. In addition to these recordings, we may also access virtual classroom lesson logs (including lesson summaries and chat logs) to assist in these investigations. In the event that we receive a Subject Access Request (SAR), a copy of the relevant recording will be downloaded, encrypted, and stored with our SAR record to fulfil our legal obligations. In the event of a suspected criminal offence, we will cooperate with UK law enforcement and provide access to the relevant recordings and transcripts as required.

Incident Response: We will promptly investigate all reports of illegal activity and other safeguarding concerns, aiming to begin an investigation within 24 hours of a report being made. We will cooperate with UK law enforcement and other relevant authorities by providing access to lesson recordings if a criminal offence is suspected or required for an investigation.

Policy Review: This policy is subject to regular review to ensure it remains current and effective. A review will be conducted at least annually, or in the event of significant changes in UK legislation, government guidance, or our internal procedures.

6. Tutor Responsibilities

As the sole tutor and director of Rescoping Education, I have a personal commitment to upholding the highest standards of professional conduct and safeguarding. My responsibilities are as follows:

Ongoing Suitability: The tutor will promptly disclose any new criminal convictions, cautions, or other information that may affect their suitability to tutor.

Professional Development: The tutor is committed to undertaking regular professional development and staying current with safeguarding best practices. The tutor will complete updated safeguarding training at least every two years.

Professional Boundaries: The tutor will maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students at all times. All communication will be limited to the subject of tuition and educational matters. The tutor will not engage in conversations of a personal nature with students.

Lesson Environment: The tutor will conduct all online lessons in a safe and appropriate physical environment. The lesson space will be free of distractions, inappropriate imagery, or materials visible on camera.

Responding to Concerns: The tutor will act immediately on any safeguarding concerns, reports of inappropriate behaviour, or complaints. The tutor is committed to improving standards where a complaint indicates a deficiency in their practice.

Social media: The tutor will not make any attempt to connect with students or parents and/or legal guardians on social media or any other personal communication channels. All official communications will be handled via the designated business email.

Respectful Conduct: The tutor will treat all students with respect, fairness, and without prejudice or discrimination.

Security and Insurance: The tutor will ensure their own security and maintain appropriate insurance coverage for their work.

7. Student and Parent and/or Legal Guardian Responsibilities

The safety of students under the age of 18 is the responsibility of their parent and/or legal guardian. The following guidelines apply to all online lessons delivered by Rescoping Education.

Parents and/or Legal Guardians must:

Be the primary point of contact for all matters relating to students under 18, including consent for tuition.

Be present or readily available in the same building as the student during all online lessons with minors. Parents must not leave a child in the sole care of the tutor.

Ensure the student is appropriately dressed for a lesson. Students should wear clothing that is suitable for a public setting.

Ensure the student's physical environment and location are safe, quiet, and appropriate for online lessons, free from distractions, inappropriate imagery, or materials visible on camera. Lessons should take place in a communal or designated study space within the home.

Supervise the student's behaviour to ensure they treat the tutor with respect and do not engage in inappropriate communication or behaviour, such as bullying, harassment, or the use of offensive language.

Monitor the student's communications to ensure they do not engage in any inappropriate or private contact with Rescoping Education personnel, including through social media or private email.

Immediately report any concerns, inappropriate communication, or illegal activity by the Rescoping Education tutor to Rescoping Education via info@beccatuition.com.

Students must:

Be represented by a parent or legal guardian if they are under 18.

Refrain from sending any defamatory, offensive, or illegal material via email or any other means of communication with Rescoping Education.

Immediately report any inappropriate behaviour or communications from the Rescoping Education tutor to their parent or legal guardian.

8. Handling a Reported Breach

Upon receiving a report of a policy breach, the user in question will be immediately suspended pending a full investigation. We will act promptly and impartially, prioritising the safety and well-being of all users. Rescoping Education reserves the right to determine the final course of action, which may include suspension, permanent removal from the service, or a warning.

In cases of suspected child protection issues, including but not limited to abuse, neglect, or exploitation, we will report the concern to the appropriate authorities immediately. These authorities may include the police, social services, or a children's services department. We will also cooperate fully with any subsequent investigations.

In all other cases of suspected legal activity, we will report to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
